One of the most frequently used apparatus for body workout by health enthusiasts is the Pilates Ring. It is also known as “Magic Circle” due to the fact that it has magnificent effects that the users can benefit from. Lots of other tools are available but the Pilates Ring is more popular because it is portable and handy. Performing Pilates exercises using this equipment is easier, the outcome or the effect on your body is visibly fast, and lastly, it is less spacious unlike the Wundra chair or Reformer and others.

The Pilates Ring was included as one of the few initial types of equipment used and developed by Joseph Pilates. The same instrument was also widely used in his very first studio. This uniquely and highly efficient ring was created about a hundred years ago to take care for patients. His vision is for patients and other people to do the set of exercises using the ring wherever they go and of course, to attain the desired result in the least possible time.

The experimental ring was first made from the steel hoop off a beer keg. Bands of tempered spring steel are believed to be the origin of the Magic Circle. It has protection and curved handles made of wood.

After many years, the Pilates Ring went through numerous changes. Now, scientific concept has been applied to it, but the shape and materials have become easier for users. They are available in different colors, made from different materials such as fiber glass and plastic, different sizes and levels of resistance. So, if you are looking to purchase a good Pilates ring, then you will have many great options.

Many people have asked the question: should I use a balance ball chair instead of an office chair or another chair at home? While this may not be directly related to Pilates, I still think a ball chair can be greatly beneficial and can compliment many of the objectives found in a Pilates program. Here are 3 reasons why I would recommend using a balance ball chair:

1 – A balance ball chair will force you to not slouch. Slouching can be a major problem when it comes to back pain. By slouching you are not using the muscles you should which does lead to back pain.

2 – By not slouching, using a balance ball chair will help you firm your core muscles, which is always a plus.

3 – Balance ball chairs are much cheaper than a good ergonomic office chair. I think my office spent $700 on my chair, and it’s great, but that’s a lot of money to spend when you can get a ball chair for anywhere from $20-$40.

However, please remember that whether or not it is good for you depends greatly on your back and on whether or not your doctor recommends that you use balance ball chair for everyday use. As always, consult with your doctor or physical therapist before experimenting with your back; and, research which chair is best for you, as the chair needs to be the right size for you otherwise you may do some damage to your muscles.

The last thing I would caution you about would be that you need to be careful when using a balance ball chair instead of an office chair. You can’t just go plop down it – you really need to be aware that your new chair is not a chair, but rather a ball. Sounds like a dumb warning, but you can hurt yourself if you do not use the ball chair properly (I’ve heard of people messing up their hips and/or back by not sitting properly or paying enough attention while sitting on the chair).

Pilaties (also more correctly spelled ‘Pilates’) is one of the best training methods one can use if they want to increase their stamina, enhance your athletic performance, help you rehabilitate old injuries, and more. In this post, I would like to dispel and/or confirm some of the most common myths surrounding Pilaties in general. Hopefully they will help you as you try to improve/start your own pilaties program.

First, even though pilaties is an amazing way to help you be healthy, it will not be a cure-all for all of your injuries. Pilaties is very commonly used as a rehabilitative technique for those who have had accidents or injuries, but it now way is pilaties going to replace your doctor.

Second, a pilaties program WILL help you get a sweet looking stomach. The main concentration in pilaties is the core muscles – as in the four muscles that make up your stomach—and in helping you use those abdominal muscles properly.

Third, pilaties will not make you a taller person. Sorry to those short people out there, but you cannot go from being 4’11” to being 6’ by using pilaties. You may feel taller, and even look a little taller, but that is probably more likely attributed to you not having good, correct posture before, and fixing that problem through a great pilaties workout.

Fourth, a pilaties program can help you loose weight, but it will not lose weight for you. Please remember, you are the one who has to put in the hard work. However, if you do, pilaties will be a great way for you to accomplish your weight loss goals.

Finally, DO consult with your physician or trainer before you start a pilaties program if you have any questions or concerns. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health.

Pilates for beginners can be very intimidating. Here I hope do dispel some myths and give you some good, solid information on what you need to do in order to start a Pilates for beginners program.

There are several different approaches people take at learning pilates for beginners—you can take a pilates class at a gym, you can go to a pilates studio and take a personal class, or even a class with just one or two other people, or as a larger group, or you can also learn at home with a pilates DVD.

Personally, I would almost always recommend starting out with a personal pilates trainer if you are new to pilates. Learning pilates for beginners can be fairly difficult, and you do risk injury if you try to learn it by yourself. Of course, for many people hiring a personal pilates instructor can be too expensive. In that case I would still recommend you trying to learn pilates, but be a little more careful and pay attention to the details as much as possible.

Perhaps even more important if you are learning pilates as a beginner, and not learning in a one-on-one environment, is to really study the pilates philosophy and technique. Pilates is not like lifting weights, where all you really concentrate on is resistance training. Even pilates for beginners will involve flexion, extension, and rotation of the spine – things that you never get when bench pressing in a gym.

One last bit of advice I have been given: If you are a pilates beginner, then go to the pilates for beginner classes and/or buy the videos that are for beginners. Do not think that because you are an amazing athlete that you can skip out on learning the principles of Pilates. Trust me, even with beginner classes you will still get a great workout—you just won’t risk doing something that you are not ready for and hurt yourself.

When thinking about starting a pilates regime, you must strongly consider aero pilates. This is because an aero pilates machine will greatly improve your overall strength and help you achieve your pilates goals of aligning your body properly, increasing your stability, and integrating complete mind-body fitness into your life.

Aero pilates has become fairly popular for several reasons.

First, the aero pilates machine will help ensure proper form, just like many other pilates machines such as the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Stability Chair, or the Ladder Barrel.

Second, the aero pilates machine has a padded jump-board, which can make for more comfortable and easy your training exercises.

Third, you will be able to perform advanced pilates exercises because the machine is able to be raised up to 10 inches off the ground.

Fourth, the machine has several levels of workout cords designed specifically for different workout levels.

Finally, you will be able to perform over 50 different exercises with an aero pilates machine, thus helping you really shape your muscles the way you would like to and help you work on the areas in the body that you need the most help with.

In addition, the machine you use for aero pilates is typically a very sturdy, solid machine. Make sure you use the right machine, however, and that you know how to adjust it properly to fit your body. Use the videos that come with the machine, or also find videos on the web that can show you how to use your machine (however, generally speaking, you will do better using the videos that came with the machine or purchasing a good video – that way you know you are getting proper instructions).
Aero pilates will greatly help you in your quest for overall health, and I would strongly recommend it for those looking to improve/start their aero pilates program.

Have you ever used a Pilates ball as part of your normal Pilates workout? If you have, then you know how beneficial using a Pilates ball can be. Often referred to as Swiss balls, exercise balls, or fitness balls, Pilates balls can be very helpful in your goal to become fit and in shape.

When people think of Pilates, they often envision someone on either a mini pilates ball or a large pilates ball, working and sweating a way as they strengthen their abs. However, interestingly enough, the original Pilates did not incorporate a Pilates ball the way that it incorporates the magic circle or the pilates reformers (I’ll write more about those in another post).

Of course, pilates balls have become increasingly popular among enthusiasts simply because of the benefits one can achieve using it. Generally speaking, when you workout using pilates you do so to strengthen your core muscles—and using a good fitness ball will help you do exactly that. In fact, the best pilates ball can be very effective in training and building your core muscles. Every exercise you perform on the fitness ball will be a little more difficult that if you did it on a sturdy, solid bench. Why? Simply because of the instability inherent in the nature of the pilates ball. You will be forced to balance and leverage your body in addition to performing the traditional exercises. In other words, you make the exercise more complex, helping you achieve maximum effectiveness in your workouts by stimulating all your muscles.

If you have not tried using a Pilates ball as part of your pilates workout, I would highly recommend finding a good one and at least trying it—you will be pleasantly surprised at what you will find.
